SPIRIT Project

The SPIRIT Project explores the future of telepresence. It is about transforming how people and machines interact across distance through ultra-low-latency, high-quality immersive technologies. While virtual communication has become vital in recent years, SPIRIT takes it further by reimagining how extended reality (XR), multimedia communications, and advanced wireless systems can create truly seamless experiences between physical and virtual environments. Funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme, SPIRIT brings together eight of Europe’s leading companies and universities to research, develop, and demonstrate scalable, energy-efficient telepresence solutions. The project aims to overcome today’s technical barriers such as cost, data compression, and bandwidth requirements, paving the way for real-time, accessible immersive communication that will benefit education, healthcare, manufacturing, and creative industries alike.
